Dr. Hal Trimmier, Jr. of Orangeburg, SC, formerly of Bennettsville, died Sunday, November 12, 2017 in Orangeburg.  He was 88 years old.

Son of Hal and Carrie Trimmier, Hal was born December 9, 1928 in Spartanburg, South Carolina.  He attended Pine Street School, Jenkins Jr. High School and graduated from Spartanburg High School in 1946.  He attended Wofford College and graduated from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN in December of 1950.  He received his South Carolina license to practice Optometry in January 1951 and entered the US Army serving in the Eye Clinic at Fort Jackson Army Hospital, 1951 to 1953.  He began private practice of Optometry in Bennettsville in November of 1953 practicing 58 years until his retirement in November of 2010. 

Dr. Trimmier served as Past President of the Bennettsville Jaycees and Bennettsville Rotary Club and was recognized for perfect attendance for 1965-2010.  He also served on the Bennettsville Airport Commission.  He was a member of First United Methodist Church where he served on various boards and committees including Chairman of Administrative Board.

Interests included flying and the game of golf.  Dr. Trimmier took great pride in attending 60 Masters Golf Tournaments and actually met Arnold Palmer there.  He enjoyed taking many local friends for their first airplane ride and a trip to the Masters.

Dr. Trimmier is survived by his wife of 60 years Mary Lois Hamer Trimmier of Orangeburg; a son, Mark Hamer Trimmier and wife Sylvia of Orangeburg; a daughter, Janet Trimmier Grulick of Irmo, SC; grandsons Andy Trimmier of Newberry, S.C. and Paul Trimmier of Atlanta Georgia; granddaughters, Clair and Abigale, (Abby) Grulick of Irmo, SC; two sisters, Francis Carolyn Loryea and husband Robert of Columbia, SC and Virginia Shelton Trimmier of Columbia SC.

A graveside service is planned for Thursday, November 16, 2017 at 2:00 at Sunset Memorial Park with the Rev. Mark Johnston officiating.  The family will receive friends after the service at First United Methodist Church from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m.
