George Edward “Butch” Cashman, Jr, age 78, passed away Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Morrison Manor in Laurinburg, NC. Butch was born in Prescott, Arkansas, March 1, 1940. He was the son of George Edward Cashman, Sr. and Edna Barger Cashman. On February 17, 1962 at Church in the Pines in Laurel Hill, NC, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Rebecca Monroe, who preceded him in death on October 28, 1985.
Survivors include his sister, Diana Cashman Haigler and her husband Fulton of Rockingham, NC, daughter, Cynthia Cashman Stone and her husband Cam of Bennettsville, SC, son, George Edward “Tray” Cashman, III of Anchorage, Alaska, grandson, Hayden Blaine Stone of Hartsville, SC and Bootie, his faithful yellow lab.
Butch was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church and a former member of the Laurinburg Jaycees, Laurinburg Optimist Club, Scotland County Homebuilders Association and the Laurinburg Board of Realtors.
Butch was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting, and gardening. He enjoyed many trips with his friends to Davis Island, Santee Cooper, and any pond that had bass. But the trip he considered “the best trip ever” was to Alaska in 2013. He, with his son, Tray and grandson, Hayden, spent 2 weeks fishing, camping, and exploring the beautiful state. It is evident that he passed along the love of the outdoors and the passion of hunting and fishing to his children and grandson.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Bennettsville, SC. Following the service, the family will receive friends at the home of Cam and Cindy Stone to celebrate Butch’s life.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to Scotland Regional Hospice in Laurinburg, NC and First Presbyterian Church, Brogdon Hall Fund, in Bennettsville, SC.
