Mr. Jesse Frank Townsend, Jr passed away Monday, June 10, 2019 at Carolinas ContinueCare in Charlotte, NC. He was 78 years old.
Frank was born August 31, 1940 at Marlboro General Hospital in Bennettsville, SC. He was the son of the late Jesse Frank, Sr. and Virginia May Cook Townsend. He graduated from Presbyterian Jr. College in Maxton, NC with a degree in Marketing and graduated from Palmer College in Columbia, SC with an Associate Degree in Business. He worked for Marlboro County DSS as an Administrative Specialist in the Food Stamp Issuance Unit (AKA the King of the Department). He was also an Administrative Assistant for 3 Catholic Churches; St. Denis in Bennettsville, St. Peters in Cheraw, and St. Ernest in Pageland whose main office was located in Cheraw. He was the Project Director for 16 years at The Marlboro Civic Center and retired in 2010. He was a member of St. Paul’s Church in Bennettsville since 1996, was confirmed in the Church on May 31, 1998, he served one term on the Church’s Vestry Committee and always a faithful volunteer at the Annual Pancake Supper! He Loved the arts…He was a past President for the Marlboro Players, served on the Board of Director’s of the Marlboro Arts Council, served as the Jr. Chairman of the Jubilee Arts Festival. He was an avid Bridge player.
He is survived by a host of cousins and a special Goddaughter Katherine Louise Spears Mobile.
He was preceded in death by his parents listed above.
A funeral service will be held 3pm Saturday, June 15, 2019 at St. Paul’s Church, with burial at Sunset Memorial Park, officiated by The Reverend Mary Ellen Doran.
