Thomas “Chris” Christopher Montrose, 62 years old, passed on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at McLeod Hospice House in Florence, SC.
Born February 6, 1957 in Bennettsville, he was a son of the late Boyd Smith Montrose and Breta House Montrose. Chris graduated from Bennettsville Highschool in 1976 and later continued his education at The University of South Carolina where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in History. After graduating he worked for D.S.S., he worked security at Marlboro general, voter registration, and he worked his longest tenure as a clerk at the Marlboro Inn. Chris was an avid W.W. II. History buff and Gamecock fan. He was interested in anything related to F.D. Roosevelt and he enjoyed old Doris Day movies. In high school he helped manage their basketball and baseball teams. Chris was a well-liked person and he always worked well with others. He was a very active member at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Bennettsville where he was a Lay Leader, on the Vestry, was active with the Cursillo Movement, and worked with the youth there.
He is survived by his brothers, Derek Montrose of Bennettsville, Paul Boyd Montrose of Bennettsville, Benny Montrose McColl (Linda) of North Myrtle Beach; sister, Nellie Amanda Montrose Ford (David Page) of Great Falls; cousin, Denny Thomas Quick of Little River; nieces, Alexa Maglio, Sarah Contakos, Rebecca Thomas, Vivian McColl; several great nieces; and many cousins in Canada.
He was preceded in death by his parents listed above and his brother David Montrose.
A funeral service will be held at 11 A.M. on Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Bennettsville, with burial following at Sunset Memorial Park. A visitation will be held from 6-8 P.M. on Monday, August 12, 2019 at Burroughs Funeral Home in Bennettsville.
