Bennie Ray Collins August 25, 1935 – September 6, 2020
Bennie Ray Collins, 85, passed away Friday, September 4th at home surrounded by his family and devoted Hospice Care workers.
Bennie was born August 25, 1935 in Marlboro County. He was the son of the late Ray and Ruby Hammonds Collins. Bennie retired from Crown, Cork and Seal of Cheraw, SC, after 18 years of service. He was also a veteran of nine years with the United States Air Force with active duty in the Korean Conflict, and with rank of Staff Sargent. He was a member of Thomas Memorial Baptist Church where he taught the Barnabus Sunday School class and served as deacon for many years. He enjoyed working in his yard growing roses. The love of his life was his family: his wife, Sara, his children, and their families. He loved most their gatherings at special occasions. The greatest experience of his life was when he accepted Jesus Christ as his savior and his life was forever changed.
Along with his parents listed above, he was preceded in death by brothers Jerry and Craig Collins, and a brother-in-law, Leeman Ormsby.
He is survived by his wife, Sara, of 65 years; daughter, Lora Chavis (Tommy) of Cheraw, SC; sons, Johnny (Sherry) of Winston Salem, NC, Larry (Marilyn) of Cheraw, SC, David (Mary) of Bennettsville, SC, Charlie (Connie) of Denton, NC, and Jay (Alison) of Winston Salem, NC; sister, Judy Ormsby of Hamlet, NC; sisters-in-law, Barbara Collins of Florence, Janet Collins of Hamlet, NC, and Jean Webster of St. George Island, FL; grandchildren, Holly (Jay) Patrick, Greg Collins, Stephanie (Chris) Jones, Adam (Chelsea) Nolan, Angela (Alexander) Turner, Kyle (Lauren) Collins, Bethany Collins, Jonathan Chavis, Andrew (Lexi) Collins, Melody Collins, Emily Collins, Erin Lewey and Allison (Drew) English; great-grandchildren, Stephen Wallace, Coby Collins, Riley and Caleb Nolan, Benjamin Wallace, Camdyn and Axsel Nolan, a host of nieces and nephews and special friends Rev. Bobby Norris, Brandon Faircloth, James McDuffie, Doug and Paula Canup.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 6, 2020 at Thomas Memorial Baptist Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the sanctuary.
