On Thursday, September 10, 2020, Dianne Colbert McElroy, loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away at the age of 78.
Dianne was born February 12, 1942, in Gretna, Virginia, to the late Elton and Margaret Elliot Colbert. She married Arvil Raymond McElroy on May 12, 1962 and they raised two sons, Scott and Jeff. Dianne was a graduate of Coker College. She retired with the Marlboro County School District and spent her entire career working in Adult Education. She would even travel to provide education to inmates in prisons across the state. Dianne was a member of First Baptist Church of Irmo and enjoyed her church family and participating in church activities. She assisted in preparing for the seniors’ gatherings at the church and mailing out cards to shut ins. She had an eye for detail and loved decorating her home and helping others to make theirs beautiful as well. She also had a passion for gardening and her porch was always adorned with beautiful flowers when spring arrived. Most of all, she was proud of her family and loved spending time with them.
Dianne was preceded in death by parents and husband listed above; brothers, Bobby, R.E., and Richard "BoBo" Colbert; sisters, Linda Colbert Carter and Joan Colbert Stroupe; and son, Jeffrey Forest McElroy.
She is survived by her son, Scott Raymond McElroy (Carol) of St. Matthews, SC; grandsons, Dustyn Scott McElroy (Kristina) of Columbia, SC and Raymond Tyler McElroy (Megan) of Dallas Texas; sisters, Kaye Waller (Joe) of Gastonia, NC and Faye Peake (Terry) of Altavista, VA; great-grandchildren, Bailey McElroy and Olivia McElroy; and many other beloved nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, September 18, 2020 at First Baptist Church of Irmo, 7068 Nursery Road, Columbia, SC 29212.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 20, 2020 at Burroughs Funeral Home, 688 Beauty Spot Road E, Bennettsville, SC 29512, with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., just prior to the service at the funeral home.
